Aerogel, aka frozen smoke

Aerogel also known as frozen smoke is hoped upon by many to one day be able to and filter wastewater and clean up things such as oil spills. What makes this solid able to do this is its absorbent qualities. One brand of aerogel by Nanogel was able to clean up oil quicker and in larger quantities than other materials which are more commonly used. Aerogel is able to soak up many organic compounds that can end up in wastewater from many different types of industrial plants. What makes this absorbent solid so amazing is that it has a large surface area and it is able to absorb up to 7x its own weight. Scientists from all over have tested aerogel by exposing some of to there own man made equivalents to wastewater. So far aerogel as come out on top doing very well. Some researchers are looking to use aerogel in other means besides oil spills. When compared to other methods of cleaning up spills such as sawdust eat sorb, bentonite, organoclay, reed canary grass and flax or hemp fibe aerogel as proven to be far superior. It unlike the others does not sink into the liquid but instead floats, and absorbs far more than the others.

New and improved techniques for treatment of drinking water

Treatment of drinking water has become must for everyone in today’s world because there are lots of water impurities like activated carbon, activated charcoal and many more that are harmful for human health. However there are many water purifying methods and some or the other chemicals are dissolved in the water whether it is supplied from the city or from any personal well. There are lots of methods included within distillation and filtration process of cleaning water and they are reverse osmosis, ultraviolet rays, magnetism and a unique combination of disinfectant and filtration.

Reverse osmosis is mainly based on the technique of removing salt from saline water. This in fact is a complicated method of cleaning water and with the help of this method the biological contaminations in water are eradicated but it cannot be considered as an absolute water purifier. Despite of some limitations, reverse osmosis method of cleaning water is widely used. Then considering the magnetism process of cleaning water, we can say that a strong magnetic field is applied to the water but it is not capable of removing all biological or unpredictable chemicals normally present in water. Ultraviolet rays are being used to purify water but it has its own side effects on human body and skin.

Clean Water Systems (CWS-2) is one of the best home water treatment systems and it can purify up to 30 gallons of water in an hour and the consumption of power for this is just 24 watts. CSW-2 is outfitted with activated carbon filters that helps get rid of activated carbon fibers and this ensures that your water is pure, clean and safe to drink now.

The amazing effects of activated charcoal on toxins

The amazing effects of activated charcoal on toxins

The amazing effects of activated charcoal on toxins are truly incredible. Why this charcoal is called as activated charcoal? It is created to contain very tiny particles and hence is known as activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is perhaps one of the best tools available to neutralize the ingested toxins.

If some one consumes a toxic substance like drugs or chemicals then activated charcoal will be very much useful to nullify the toxins. Studies prove that activated charcoal can neutralize the toxins up to 60%. However, for the best results the patient should be administered with activated charcoal within thirty minutes the patient consumed the toxins.

Usually activated charcoal is fed into the stomach of the patient by a stomach pump. The activated carbon is a non-toxic tasteless powder. It immediately begins to remove the toxin contents. It is indeed very effective. Moreover, it does not irritate the digestive tract. It does not harm the digestive organs in any way. Nevertheless it will absorb all the toxic substances to it.

The activated charcoal instantly removes the toxins largely with out harming the digestive system. Only disadvantage is that it would absorb the vitamins and minerals as well along with the toxic contents. However, this would not affect the patient much as this is only acute.

In a nutshell, I would say that activated charcoal is the best remedy for removing toxins. It is harmless and does not cause any side effects. However, it should be kept in mind that it would yield best results if the patient were administered with activated charcoal within half an hour of consuming the toxins.

What options to Activated Charcoal or Reverse

February 17, 2009

What options to Activated Charcoal or Reverse Osmosis water filtration of Perfluorochemicals? Activated charcoal filtration systems are reasonably priced and are generally faucet mounted. The drawback there is that the filter should be replaced after so many gallons of water filtered or every three months. One manufacturer’s disclaimer suggests that its product not be used where water is deemed unsafe with out prior chlorination treatment or other type of disinfection process.
Reverse osmosis is a process by which water is mechanically forced through a unit’s filtration membrane most faucet mount carbon filtration systems capabilities are only as good as the force induced by the water pump. Reverse osmosis is a more viable option for water filtration; however, these systems can be quite costly as they are whole house units mounted near the water meter or well pump.
(PFCs) are not only found in the manufacture of produce the foam firefights train with and use; this compound is also used in the manufacture of Teflon products. Perfluorochemicals (PFCs) are soluble in certain gases, namely fluorocarbons, and is currently being studied in the biomedical field for its potential to aid respiratory processes in humans, other mammals, and plant life in addition to making cellular activities in these species more productive.
Naturally water filtration methods such as, carbon activation or reverse osmosis are desirable as an impediment to illness due to environmental contamination, however, if bio medicine has observed the solubility of PFCs in certain gases could as desirable to investigate the possibility of that process to better aid the work of firefighters with a less dramatic effect on the environment?
